Adventures, Masks and Books

Again, another week has passed us by and we now find ourselves together once more, reunited and catching up.

I'm currently looking for a book to read, I haven't read anything since finishing the Mistborn Trilogy. I've received an execellent recommendation from Becky, an old friend, and was told I'd enjoy The Furies of Calderon by Jim Butcher (who wrote The Dresden Files series, several of which I have enjoyed. Ironically I was introduced to this author my hero [dad], who isn't really a fan of fantasy fiction but enjoyed these books none-the-less). I've placed the book on hold at the library and await its arrival.

It is now several hours later and I'm sitting here thinking back on Ashley and I's adventurous day. After having visited the library, a.k.a. one of the best places on earth, blockbuster and a whole slew of Halloween/Costume/Antique shops; my favorite of which was Mask Costumes (it used to be The Costume Closet and I believe that's what it still reads outside the store) who's great selection of costumes, makeup, hat's, etc. was just fantastic. The masquerade mask selection was awesome and I found myself rather fond of a few of them.

Our adventure took us to yardsale in the early evening, where my wife bought a rice paper divider and a whole slew of asian inspired knick-knacks, pictures and prints for a whopping twenty-one dollars. Thank you kind yardsale people for making my wife's day.

My writing is coming along, somewhat; the goals I've set have definitely helped though I still haven't reached them yet. I've also jumped completely off track and onto a new one entirely, a short story about an inhospitable planet filled with ex-convicts who lived and served out their sentences working the mines and then couldn't afford to go back or decided to stay (not likely) and those who were convinced that it would be a nice place to live (Inspired partially by Borderlands, post-apocalyptic stuff and Australia). I'm musing about taking up a challenge given by Becky's husband on his own blog, which you can visit here:

The challenge was to write a short horror story and seeing how it is the season with Halloween and all that, I think I just might. I re-extend this challenge to you, write a short horror story (typically this means scary but it doesn't have to be; I've seen Coraline and The Graveyard Book both categorized as horror [I recommend both, especially the later] and neither of them is scary, though Coraline is creepy).

I love Halloween, I always have, I'm very fond of things described as dark and macabre (though, ironically, I'm not really into the scareyourselfsillyandsoilyourself aspect of it all). I'm excited for this Halloween and am currently brainstorming what I could be for the 31st.

Not to beat a dead horse or sound like a broken record, but have you heard of All Hallow's Read? Check it out:

Well, I think that's about all for today, hopefully I'll write again tomorrow and someday I'll actually post some pictures up here. Enjoy your night.

i'm going to look into the dresden files! this is the last and final recommendation i need. if they're anything like furies of calderon, i'm already in love. i can't stop talking about that book. just ask trevor. i keep telling him to write like him :)

keep an eye out on trevor's blog--he's supposed to be posting my short story SOMETIME :) never really written before, so it should at least make you feel better about your own writing! haha
