New friends, new worlds and new adventures

I've broken my promise to you, and for that, I apologize. I'm afraid I have no pictures for this post(which means none for you) though I do hope to have some up here eventually, someday.

I've been thinking a lot the last few days about something I wrote about in an earlier blog. Reading. Not just reading, but good reading. Reading good books and what it means exactly to read a good book. For me, a good book acts as a doorway, from one room to another world, another reality or another plane of existence. It will make you care, make you laugh and make you cry. In essence, it makes you feel and it make you care. A good book will not only be a reading of another's life and their hardships and whether or not they overcome them. It is living, or reliving, that life with them.

Perhaps I've used the wrong word to describe these books. You see, I recently read a book called Rage written by Matthew Castello based upon a newly released videogame of the same name. This book was alright, engaging and suspensful; perhaps I daresay good. It was, however, far from being great. I think that's the word I should have been using; great books take us places, make us feel and make us visit, see and live things we would never be able to otherwise (well perhaps that's not entirely true, but it's close).

I'm currently seeking out great books, stories that will transport me places, introduce me to new friends and make me feel. If you've ever read a book that did these things for you, let me know. I'm currently reading Forbidden of The Books of Mortals series (or perhaps trilogy, I'm not sure) and it's very engaging and has shown great potential. I'm looking for these books not only because I enjoy reading but also because it is from these great books that perhaps I can learn the most, then again, perhaps it's the books that lose my attention that teach me, showing me what not to do in my own writing. Either way, I hope to hear from you and get some suggestions on great reads.

  1. Can't remember if I told you this book before... but: The Name of the Wind.

Seriously, so good. Got me thinking about fantasy in a new way; refreshing take on familiar tropes.
